Radio Caroline Dublin will be placing a blank mono carrier on 102.5MHz today and are planning on purchasing an optimod which will clean up their audio problems before full programming is resumed.

Spin FM - the newly licensed youth service for Dublin - face further launch delays after unsuccessful licence applicant John Reynolds of the Storm FM consortium appealed the recent court decision that there was no bias on the part of the IRTC in awarding the licence to Spin FM. The case now must go back to the Supreme Court for a full appeal hearing which will not take place until next Autumn at the earliest.

Hot Radio's 88.1 transmitter has been off air since yesterday with problems and they hope to have normal service restored by this evening.

ChrisCary.com's contents have disappeared to be replaced by the message "This site is currently under construction...July 2000". Last week a message appeared stating that Chris was no longer at The Verne (prison where he was serving his sentence) with no clue given as to his whereabouts. Whilst serving his time he was learning website design. Interesting conclusions could be drawn from the latest change to the website!

Mad Radio - off air since mid-June - are planning to return but without their planned upgrade for the moment. Supplier problems have delayed their return and they will broadcast using their previous set-up until new equipment arrives. Mad FM broadcast to Dublin city centre on 93.2MHz.

Jazz FM is presently off air. Yesterday there was hiss and static on their signal and it has transpired that their link aerial has been knocked out of shape. Unfortunately they cannot at present gain access to their transmitter site and they hope to be back on air asap which will probably be sometime on Monday. Jazz FM broadcast to Dublin on 89.8MHz and recently celebrated 5 years on air. This is their first break in programming for over 3 years. Also off for periods today were Power FM and Kiss FM due to power problems at the transmitter sites.

Sound Factory 106.8 were on air in Dublin Saturday evening through Sunday morning broadcasting a multi-cultural mix of programming.

ABC 94FM have changed their RDS to "94.3 MHZ".

Phantom FM's RDS is off at the moment. Phantom broadcast to Dublin on 91.6MHz.

Phantom FM, as mentioned on today's Anorak Hour, are suffering interference to their signal at present. As a result they have been broadcasting in mono today and will be going off air for technical adjustments at midnight for about 30 minutes. Phantom can be heard on 91.6MHz in Dublin.

ABC 94FM have suspended normal programming until next Tuesday or Wednesday to allow some work at their studio location to take place, including the re-installation of equipment to allow for more live programmes in the future. Link problems will also be cleared up this week. Other plans for ABC 94FM (plus sister stations Beat FM and Gold FM) will be announced in the coming weeks.

Sound Factory 106.8 is back on air in Dublin on Sunday evening. They hold a temporary licence under the Red Bull Music Academy which will end next Sunday.

88.2MHz in Dublin is tonight home to an unidentified looping dance music station except for the airing of some old Mojo Radio promos. At 10.30pm the operators actually relayed Hot FM live a couple of times before returning to their own "programming". Transmissions ceased at 11pm. There were similar but weaker broadcasts yesterday on 88.1mhz.
Meantime the following message appeared on the message board of the Radioanoraks site at about 10pm from someone calling themselves '88.1 Representitive':
Hot's relay is returning to 88.1 tomorrow evening. The original CTE transmitter melted, but a new transmitter has been purchased. So please remove all your toy transmitters off 88.1 and go back to your kindergarden. Anyone who refuses to switch off will be forced to.

Phantom FM are back broadcasting in glorious stereo with a return of their RDS from this evening.

Beat FM have been on 94.3MHz in Dublin since Monday in addition to their normal frequency of 87.6MHz. As reported on Sunday, this is to allow for continued studio work at sister station ABC who normally occupy 94.3 and the move will last for a few more days at least. Meanwhile, the aerial planned for the medium wave station has arrived and tests should be commencing soon.

Phantom FM were once again off air this evening for a brief period and interruptions to the service will continue until Friday when they hope to have a new link frequency. Problems are being caused by digital test transmissions from RTE. Phantom FM broadcast to Dublin on 91.6MHz.

Hot 99FM have stated that the threatening message posted to an anorak board last night was not from them. The post had received many immature replies overnight all of which have now been removed. Meanwhile Hot Radio's website is also showing signs of life...it's at www.hotradio.org.

Magic 105 have announced that they are testing a new sister station called Magic Country on Sunday and Tuesday nights on their 105.1MHz frequency. They hope to have the new station running 24 hours on 107.7MHz soon. Magic 105 broadcasts into Northern Ireland from a transmission site based in Monaghan.

Mad Radio have confirmed that they will be recommencing broadcasting from this weekend whilst they await new equipment. There are no plans to increase power and they will broadcast the same varied mix of music including rap, dance and metal.

TalkSport in the UK are claiming a first with the novel idea of inviting listeners to record audio email messages through their website to be sent to the station for later broadcast.

Beat FM now have RDS on their signal. It reads BEAT FM and doesn't change when Gold FM is broadcasting! The station broadcasts an around the clock automated mix to Dublin on 87.6MHz and temporarily on 94.3MHz.

Energy 106.6 FM is running on substantially reduced power due to damage incurred from repeated ESB power failures up at Alien Mountain, Co Monaghan. This may lead to a delay in the introduction of the Magic - Power Country service on 107.7 while the main Energy 106.6 6KW transmitter is repaired. This also effects the Magic 105 service to the west on 105.8.

Atlantic 252 have appointed e-business consultancy E-Marketing to develop its new website which they hope will be the most innovative radio station website ever created. A live stream will also be available. The station is about to announce details of it's £1m marketing push and all this follows a 20% audience increase since it's new schedule launch in January. The site is due for official launch on October 1st.

Radio Caroline will be back on medium wave with high-powered transmissions next month for the first time since 1990. The broadcast will be in honour of the Dutch Caroline Supporters Day which takes place on August 19th - also the 11th anniversary of the UK/Dutch armed raid on the Ross Revenge - and the frequency will be 1296 kHz.

The Irish Mix were suffering audio problems today and were off air for a long period from 7.30 this evening.

Phantom FM were off air for about a half an hour today at approx 4pm as they were in the process of changing their UHF link receiver at their transmission site, replacing a temporary one put in on Thursday when they moved their frequency away from the RTE digital test frequency.

The Irish Mix were again off air for long periods this morning but are now back on their frequency of 90.3MHz.

Ozone Radio, the shortwave pirate station based in Dublin, may be leaving the airwaves within a month owing to a lack of interest from listeners according to SRSnews. Station controller Prince Terry has been making on-air statements regarding lack of interest, in particular very few letters.
Ozone Radio has been on air for 3 decades and was formerly known as Westside Radio. The station broadcasts on Sunday mornings usually from about 8am and carries a deferred relay of Phantom FM's 'The Anorak Hour'.

Beat FM have changed their RDS reading to 'B E A T '. Beat FM broadcast to Dublin on 87.6MHz and temporarily on 94.3MHz.

Hot Radio is to vacate their second frequency of 88.1 MHz it was announced today. The frequency was used by the station on a temporary basis and has now been taken by a former partner in Hot. A transmitter is in place and a new station will broadcast from 88.1 soon.

John Dempsey is leaving Hot Radio to join ESG FM. John - the man behind Dream FM and the highly recommended new ESG website - will occupy the Saturday evening slot from 6-8pm. ESG FM broadcast to Dublin on 93.8, 94.1 & 99.1MHz.

James Stafford today denied that he ever pushed for RTÉ Radio 2 to be closed down. Stafford said at the Flood Tribunal that it was his view that RTÉ Radio 2 should be closed as it was using the RTÉ licence fee to sell below-cost advertising to stifle competition. Capital Radio in London, which took a stake in Century, also believed it should be closed. But he said it was never a requirement, and it was not included in the 1990 legislation.

Radio Caroline Dublin will be returning to the airwaves this Tuesday, August 1st in the early evening. The station has installed new equipment and is ready to resume broadcasting this time on a frequency of 102.6MHz

TV3 - Ireland's independent television service - has informed the IRTC that it is interested in operating a regional radio service. TV3's last attempt at securing a licence was a failed bid for the licence awarded to Lite FM.

Today FM, Ireland's independent national radio service, want to sign Ray D'Arcy to present a morning programme on the station.

The transmission site of Dublin community station NEAR FM was vandalised today at approx 4pm and equipment was stolen - namely their transmitter and their RDS encoder. About an hour later broadcasts returned to 101.6MHz but this time bearing the RDS COOL--FM. The individual conned his way onto site using the name of NEAR FM's engineer. Cool FM is still on air late tonight. It will take some time before NEAR FM return to air as their mast was also destroyed in the attack.

Dublin's FM104 were off air last night for a period following a break-in at their transmitter site which necessitated broadcasting from a standby transmitter in Hume House for a period. They are now back on from 3 Rock following a temporary repair job although there was thousands of pounds worth of equipment ruined.

This will open up a new world of radio channels to Irish listeners, although BBC Radio 5 Live is encrypted outside the UK and is not available to Irish subscribers.
